Earth Week!

April 21 - April 25, 2008 was Earth Week at Timber Creek!

Students from the Service Learning Academy joined with the Green Team to sponsor Earth Week. Why a week? Because the Earth needs to be celebrated every day, and awareness in saving our planet takes more than one day!

About 800 students enjoyed films from the Global Peace Film Festival at the Enzian Theatre over four days. Each day guest speakers spoke after the films and answered questions from students. Author Bill Bellevue, an expert on the St Johns River, Shayla Dougher from the Simple Living Institute, and an environmental professor Joe Siry from Rollins College were the guest speakers.

Earth Day activities took place in the courtyard of Timber Creek High School. Service learning students partnered with the Green Team, Students for Peace, Avalon Middle School, the Global Peace Film Festival, and the Enzian Theatre for a week of study on environment issues that affect us all. Displays and booths in the courtyard focused on recycling, saving water and energy, global warming, endangered species, solar energy, protecting endangered coral reefs, and green companies. Students bought environmental pins, listened to musicians and had their faces painted with widlife art.
