Students from the Service Learning Council and Students for Peace volunteered for the fourth year in a row at the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Santa Workshop. On Wednesday, December 10th, the first set of students assisted RSVP Program Director Hedy Bass and the seniors to carry boxes of toys and gifts to the auditorium to set up for the event. All year the senior citizens create toys, baby clothes, and donate gifts to create a store where Orlando's Head Start students come to "shop" for gifts for their family members.
Santa's Workshop was held on December 11th and 12th. TCHS service learning students greeted the Head Students who got off the buses with their shopping lists. The high school students paired up and took the young students to "shop" for their family members at the rows and rows of tables filled with gifts lovingly made and bought by the seniors. Then they helped the young children at the gift wrapping tables where they got all of their presents wrapped by the senior helpers. After that they got juice and cookies from the elves, and then they were taken to meet Mr. And Mrs. Santa Claus. The wonderful music of the senior citizen's big band filled the room and set the holiday mood.
